nothing tastes better than slim |
i love food. but i love fitting into my skinny jeans even more. this blog is about trying to keep things straight in my head, which isn't easy. |
Roasting the veggies sounds like a great plan.
And I would really appreciate it if you could point me to those paleo blogs. Thanks!
I’m becoming a huge fan of roasted cauliflower with some curry spice on it too :)
Anyway, here’s some of the blogs I’ve been following:
I’ve also had pretty good luck with thinking of something I’m in the mood for and googling for Paleo X.
Anyway hope that gets you started! Let me know if you try anything you like… I’ll be sure to do the same!
I thought making these and homemade lara bars was a disaster waiting to happen. Not so - super easy even with just a magic bullet! The hardest part was not eating them all. They’re in the freezer right now - have to keep reminding myself that candy is candy, whether it’s Paleo or not I can’t eat it ALL AT ONCE!
A more interesting alternative to steamed veggies would have meant I didnt go with the chips tonight.
I totally agree. I have been spending a lot more time on food prep because of Paleo. For example, I nearly ate a bag of chocolate chips yesterday - so today I made fudge buddies.
Since eating tuna salad on the weekend I’ve been craving creamy goodness - so I made Paleo Tuna and Chicken Salad.
It’s an effort. It takes time. I spent all day Sunday making food (muffins, soup, chicken etc). But now my week is that much easier.
AND I continue look for ways to keep up the excitement by looking up paleo alternatives to foods I’m craving.
If you want me to point you to the paleo blogs I’ve turned to for recipes, just let me know.
PS Try roasting the veggies with some Olive Oil, Salt and Pepper for an alternative to steaming!
(can you tell i’ve had a bit to drink?)
I made tuna salad for dinner - paleo friendly and it was super delicious.
mixed 1 can tuna with some chopped celery and dill, added a 1/2 avocado and a few raisins and a bit of mustard (i LOVE mustard and tuna). yum yum yum. will make again!
yes, i know it’s *just* tuna, but normally my experiments end in disaster so this was a pleasant surprise!
Proud to report I met my goal of weighing more at the end of the month than at the beginning of the month - I was definitely 129.x on the scale at the gym (forgot to get on the digi scale at crossfit). That’s not as low as I was last week, but that’s okay.
My goals for December:
It’s totally doable. Especially since there’s no all inclusive cruises this month like last year! With my time off from work, I’m going to get even FITTER! YAY!
I made a new recipe for dinner tonight: Moroccan Chicken with Apples.
I follow foodland ontario on twitter and they tweeted it. I got excited because it was with things that I already had at home AND paleo friendly, so decided why not!
I was in a rush so ate it pretty quickly (I’m SO FULL) but it was delish. I added too much liquid, so will have to try it again and be a little more careful.
Will get to enjoy again tomorrow at lunch. (I halved the recipe)
I have a website for you (here), that I really think you’ll enjoy. I think I found it through another tumblr, but my memory is a bit hazy due to all this darned essay writing. It’s called Enlightened Cooking and it has a recipe on it for homemade Lara Bars. I tried making them on the weekend and they are pretty darn good! I saw you made the Caveman cookies and thought you might like to give this one a try!
Enjoy :)
Ooooh! Thanks muchly! I will definitely have to try this out. I don’t have a food processor but do I have a magic bullet so hopefully that will be good enough! I love squishing things… muhahahaha
EDIT: Checked out my posts tagged as recipes and it turns out the first time I blogged about Lara bars I linked to this page! Go figure! In any case I do appreciate the reminder hehe
Eating like this is, well, boring. Athletes view eating as just refuelling. My relationship with food will never really be like this - I have no problem admitting that I love food. That doesn’t mean I intend to eat like I used to, but it does mean I could never eat paleo-esque all the time.
So having said that, I think I will re-gig things this weekend. Last weekend I was pretty good diet wise on Saturday, then went a bit crazy on Sunday. Meaning Monday felt like a tough, hard reset.
The plan for this weekend is to go (less) crazy on Saturday, and be pretty good on Sunday - a soft reset to healthy eating if you will. Then on Monday - Friday it will be pretty tight on the healthy eating. That’s the plan.
Basically I am trying to find a workable balance for long-term, sustainable changes to how I eat. I know that being totally hardcore about my diet all the time would never last.
I can totally empathize. That said, I’m trying to find ways to make paleo less boring. I’ve been spending time looking up recipes to keep things fresh. Last week, I tried baking. This week I want to try and make paleo chicken fingers with almond flour.
Granted, I’m not a gourmet chef to begin with.
I plan to try and keep with the 3 non-paleo meals a week as per the book, asthat’s been pretty okay. I make a few exceptions - like if I go out for dinner and have some balsamic dressing that might have sugar in it, I don’t count it as a cheat meal. A girl has gotta live!
Anyway, let me know if you find any cool recipes and I’ll do the same!
Today the whole weight loss thing is feeling like a very long journey ahead, and it’s kind of making me feel a bit bleh.
Most of this is because after yesterday, I am missing tasty, unhealthy foods.
This will pass however. So until then I’m going to distract myself with some work.
It will pass! It will! It’s like DETOX.
But sometimes I wonder if ti’s easier *not* having the day off since it seems easier to keep the ball rolling than to get it rolling… if that makes any sense.
Anyway, keep up the awesome work. Love having a caveman as a friend!
In a bold move I decided to attempt my own Cavemen Cookies tonight. Bought the ingredients at a health food store (surprised that the ground almonds (almond flour) were the same price per # as regular almonds - bonus!). Pulverized my walnut pieces with the magic bullet, heated the honey and was good to go.
I burned more than half of the cookies - was looking at two almost identical recipes (recipe 1, recipe 2) and the former says it takes 15-20 minutes to bake. The other recipe said 10-15. I went to check at 15 minutes and they were already too far gone.
Anyway, I now have 15 paleo cookies (I had 16, but I tried one - YUM!) and enough to make another batch or two. I think I’ll halve the recipe next time - I know they keep forever, but it’s a will power thing!
Excited that I can actually Paleo bake! Will have to try more…
