nothing tastes better than slim |
i love food. but i love fitting into my skinny jeans even more. this blog is about trying to keep things straight in my head, which isn't easy. |
got some things done today - snow tires, and watched the biggest loser at the ‘rents house (they have a PVR. I don’t have cable).
i can’t believe i made it from tuesday to thursday without finding out anything! yay for no spoilers.
anyway, did a good job staying out of the food there. there’s a lot of bad for me stuff, and not bad but not necessary stuff either (diet fudgesicles and the like) that I tend to chow down on.
but i ate a good dinner (salad and chicken kebab from a Mediterranean place nearby) and was not hugry. so every time i thought about going for something in the kitchen i reminded myself how full i was and how i could be in control of my eating.
and i didn’t snack! yay! it feels great to be in control!
Roasting the veggies sounds like a great plan.
And I would really appreciate it if you could point me to those paleo blogs. Thanks!
I’m becoming a huge fan of roasted cauliflower with some curry spice on it too :)
Anyway, here’s some of the blogs I’ve been following:
I’ve also had pretty good luck with thinking of something I’m in the mood for and googling for Paleo X.
Anyway hope that gets you started! Let me know if you try anything you like… I’ll be sure to do the same!
Proud to report I met my goal of weighing more at the end of the month than at the beginning of the month - I was definitely 129.x on the scale at the gym (forgot to get on the digi scale at crossfit). That’s not as low as I was last week, but that’s okay.
My goals for December:
It’s totally doable. Especially since there’s no all inclusive cruises this month like last year! With my time off from work, I’m going to get even FITTER! YAY!

Eating like this is, well, boring. Athletes view eating as just refuelling. My relationship with food will never really be like this - I have no problem admitting that I love food. That doesn’t mean I intend to eat like I used to, but it does mean I could never eat paleo-esque all the time.
So having said that, I think I will re-gig things this weekend. Last weekend I was pretty good diet wise on Saturday, then went a bit crazy on Sunday. Meaning Monday felt like a tough, hard reset.
The plan for this weekend is to go (less) crazy on Saturday, and be pretty good on Sunday - a soft reset to healthy eating if you will. Then on Monday - Friday it will be pretty tight on the healthy eating. That’s the plan.
Basically I am trying to find a workable balance for long-term, sustainable changes to how I eat. I know that being totally hardcore about my diet all the time would never last.
I can totally empathize. That said, I’m trying to find ways to make paleo less boring. I’ve been spending time looking up recipes to keep things fresh. Last week, I tried baking. This week I want to try and make paleo chicken fingers with almond flour.
Granted, I’m not a gourmet chef to begin with.
I plan to try and keep with the 3 non-paleo meals a week as per the book, asthat’s been pretty okay. I make a few exceptions - like if I go out for dinner and have some balsamic dressing that might have sugar in it, I don’t count it as a cheat meal. A girl has gotta live!
Anyway, let me know if you find any cool recipes and I’ll do the same!
Today the whole weight loss thing is feeling like a very long journey ahead, and it’s kind of making me feel a bit bleh.
Most of this is because after yesterday, I am missing tasty, unhealthy foods.
This will pass however. So until then I’m going to distract myself with some work.
It will pass! It will! It’s like DETOX.
But sometimes I wonder if ti’s easier *not* having the day off since it seems easier to keep the ball rolling than to get it rolling… if that makes any sense.
Anyway, keep up the awesome work. Love having a caveman as a friend!
It’s my birthday tomorrow so tonight I’m going for dinner with the fam and the boy. Tomorrow night I’ll do brunch with sister, dinner with friends, and cake, so I’m thinking tonight I will be good and tomorrow night I will splurge.
Food
[Goal: 2 fruit, 3 fat per day]
B: 1/2 caveman cookie & Pear [Fr]
S: Protein bar
L: Big Nicoise Salad, sans potato [F]
S: A few grapes, Caveman cookie [Fr & F]
D: Birthday din!

REST!!
Rest - my body HURTS!
Normally when I roast broccoli, I leave it in for a long time so that the top gets crispy like. I eat the whole thing, but those crispy edges are my favourite part.
The kale chips were like ALL CRISPY edges! Heaven!
Can’t wait to try different seasoning options - and since there’s plenty more left in the bunch I bought I’m sure I’ll be eating kale chips all week!
Had a quick workout today, and have eaten healthy. Trying not to snack (not hungry, but in the mood to eat - why brain? why?)
Probably going here for dinner: http://www.postbars.com/
There are plenty of healthy/paleo options on the menu. Right now I really want the Turkey Ruben. Will see if I really want the splurge tonight - I’ve been really good lately, so it’s probably a better idea to do something planned rather than holding it in until I burst and binge eat everything in my man’s apartment (“um, i have no idea where the three bags of candy went!”).
Sleeping overnight in the states, and then mall shopping in the AM. might do breaky here: http://www.theflytrapferndale.com/. Plenty to eat, and if i get one of the options without cheese I should be paleo friendly (of course, then I have to stay out of the toast and potatoes!).
I guess I’ll pick one of the two to splurge on - dinner or breaky? What will it be?
Stay tuned!
How are you finding sticking to a Paleo diet?
I find it pretty damned hard. I am a vegetarian, which makes it harder, but I might try being more Paleo next week.
(I will get round to making a meal plan. Honest!)
Wow, I’m impressed you’re doing this as a veg! I don’t know how a veg could do this - no soy, no legumes and no dairy to me implies no protein. So it’s gotta be tough. Where are you getting your protein from?
I’m going by the Book (which I took out of the library) that allows me 3 cheat meals a week (I think that’s stage 1?). I’ve been trying to have less than three - but if I add some salt to a meal I still count that as Paleo even though they recommend no salt.
I wasn’t eating many carbs (outside of fruit and veggies) before - I’ve had to cut out my daily oatmeal, and also my yogurt/cottage cheese. Snacks are all pretty much the same right now - fruit and nuts. Or maybe my egg muffins (think omlettes in muffin tins). And I miss my starbucks lattees. And artificial sweetner (though I have an occasional Diet Coke). But it’s not a huge change.
As for sticking to it, I find I am able to eat clean for stretches at a time. It’s like, once I get my willpower going it’s all good. Until it lapses. I’ve been doing quite a good job for the month or so I’ve been going… Hopefully it’ll last!
Also, the paleo was highly motivated by crossfit - they’re die hard paleo/zone folks. I haven’t gotten into zone blocks again - that’s a little too restrictive for me.
What are your thought?
