Fugu is one of the most fascinating and notorious dishes in the world. Prized in Japan as a delicacy, it is prepared from the flesh of the pufferfish (Fugu is the Japanese word for pufferfish). The flesh itself is edible, but the skin, liver and ovaries contain lethal amounts of the poison tetrododoxin. If these any of these elements are consumed, then the effects are often deadly.
Japanese chefs who prepare Fugu endure as much training as American doctors to prepare it. The chefs must memorize the exact layout of the fish and where every drop of poison is, before they are allowed to serve and prepare it. In Tokyo, which has one of the most rigorous programs, training takes from five to seven years, and includes an apprenticeship and an exam.
Fugu is the only food in which the emperor was not allowed to eat. Those who eat Fugu report a sensation of novacaine as if they were just injected by a dentist. Tetrodotoxin is allegedly 160,000 more potent than cocaine, and 1250 times deadlier than cyanide.
The taste is described by many as “heavenly,” a mild white meat, like chicken, with a unique crunchy texture.

I stayed out of the junk. The cookies and chocolate and candy did not pass my lips.
I did, however, make a salad and have some cheese on it (which is treat-like to me) AND I had 5 dried apricots.
So altogether could have been a lot worse.

my parents have great snack food.
i will not snack on stupid food. i can have some veggies from the fridge - even a little salad if i’m starving - but i’m staying out of the junk (which includes non-paleo hummus etc).

I’ve been eating clean/paleo, crossfit and generally doing okay lately. But with a few significant “lose control” slip ups. Like, that Costco Apple Pie Saturday ngiht was not worth eating. and I knew it. But I didn’t care.
I want to start caring again. For me that means journaling. So I’m getting back to it.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
i’m on day 3 of being good. where being good is eating clean - that is paleo. i’ve definitely been eating more mindlessly than i should, but that’s okay - it’s all been paleo and it’s been under control.
i’ve successfully stayed out of the chocolate chips.
granted, today isn’t done and i’m heading out for dinner and overnighting at the boy’s house where there’s lots of yummy unhealthy stuff so i’ll pack some stuff to munch on in the case i should get snacky.
scale this am was at 131.2. so still up up up, but on the way down down down.

it’s funny how once i get a day or two under my belt eating well doesn’t seem so hard - it’s like i get into this sugar hazed state where i just want to eat everything and until i detox for 24 hours i can’t get beyond that!
